If I could paint || painted my impression instead of just describing it in words, I could now point to my

picture & say: “I'm sure that this was what I saw”. (Of course the “I'm sure” is really superfluous.) But further: I have painted, portrayed my impression – but have I portrayed, projected it correctly? All justifications you might try to give are idle wheels they don't drive anything. – Now this is why the expression “immediate awareness” or “knowledge” are in this sort of case misleading.

     The proposition is not unquestionable because it rests so securely on something but there is no question of its resting on anything.
     To say that we are certain that we have this impression is like saying the earth rests || is held || rests on something that is firm in itself.
